Portland Timbers ,
The Portland Timbers soccer team was founded in 1975 as an expansion team in the North American Soccer League. The Timbers played their home games at Portland's Civic Stadium (now PGE Park) in front of crowds of 20,000. The league and the original Timbers folded in 1985 and 1982 respectively. The Timber's first year was very successful with a victory over the highly touted New York Cosmos and they finished with a 16 and 6 record their first season which was led by striker Peter Withe.
The Timbers re-emerged in 2001 as a member of the United Soccer League and once again played their home games at PGE Park.
