Minney , Gladys
Gladys Minney was a female high school basketball player for Vida High School which is location 30 miles East of Eugene, Oregon. During her career she averaged about 40 points per game, and according to local accounts and "Ripley's Believe It or Not" she once scored 104 points in a game. In 1928 and 1929 she helped Vida win the Lane County championship and during a four game tournament stretch she reportedly scored 171 points. Minney's skills attracted so much attention that she was once asked to substitute for an injured player on the boys team, but was not allowed to play because social norms did not allow boys and girls to compete with each other in sports. Her great career spanned from 1927 to 1931.
