Lewis , Elliott
Elliott Lewis began his track career at Portland's Benson High School before finishing at Colton High school, Oregon where he was a standout in basketball and track. In 1962, he won the Class B State High Jump with a leap of 5 ft. 11 1/4 in. and came back in 1963 to win the High Jump at 6 ft. 2 in., and the 100-yard dash in the time of 10.2 sec. Lewis was also an outstanding basketball player at Colton, and in 1962 was second team All-Tournament. After high school Lewis went to the University of Oregon on an athletic scholarship. His freshman year at Oregon he cleared 6 ft. 6 in.in the high jump, and opening up his sophomore year he cleared 6 ft. 6 in. once again. Lewis had a personal best of 6 ft. 8 in., but had his promising track career cut short early by injuries. In 2009, Lewis was inducted into the University of Oregon Athletic Hall of Fame as a member of the 1965 championship team.
