Tipton , Les
Leslie Eugene "Les" Tipton was a javelin thrower at the University of Oregon (1962-1964.)
He contributed to Oregon winning the team NCAA championships in 1962 and 1964. Tipton earned NCAA All-American honors in 1962 when he placed 5th and again in 1964 when he won the javelin while his teammates Gary Reddaway and Ron Gomez placed second and third respectively. He won the NCAA title with a throw of 249 feet 10 inch, and in 1972 had a career best throw of 263 feet 10 inches. Tipton was a member of the 1964 U.S. Olympic team and was inducted into the University of Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 1998.
