Smithson , Forrest
Forrest Smithson was born in Portland, Oregon on September 26, 1884 and attended Oregon State University. In 1907 and 1909 he was the A.A.U. 120 yard high hurdles national champion and in 1908 he was an Olympic Gold Medalist in the 110 meter High Hurdles in a world record time of 15.0 sec. Also in 1908, he set a world record of 5.8 sec. in the 50-yard low hurdles. He was inducted into the State of Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 1981 and the Oregon State University Sports Hall of Fame in 1988.
