Groth , Morgan
During the 1960's Oregon State's Morgan Groth was one of the countrys outstanding 800 meter, and 1500 meter runners. Before competing for Oregon State he ran for Clark College (Washington) and established school records for the 800 (1:49.1), and the 1500 (3:51.4.) In 1964, while a student at Oregon State University, he won both the 800 and 1500 at the Olympic Trials but an injury kept him from competing in the games. He was a two-time All-American and won several NCAA and USA Outdoor Championships.
1963 NCAA Champion in the Mile (4:05.3)
1964 NCAA Champion in the 1500 meters (3:40.4)
and the same year broke the 4-minute mile
barrier with a time of (3:57.9.)
1965 USA Outdoor Champion in the 880 yds (1.:47.7), and the same year established the American record at (1:47.5.)

Groth was inducted into the State of Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 1982, and the Oregon State University Sports Hall of Fame in 1991.
