Bell ,
Wade Bell was a freshman at the University of Oregon in 1963, and ran track under the tutelate of Bill Bowerman. Prior to enrolling at t he University of Oregon he won the 1963 Adidas Golden West Invitational mile run in 4:17.1 seconds. During his outstanding track career Bell was a sub 4-minute miler, 1967 Pan American Games 800 meter champion, and the 1967 NCAA 800 meter champion in a time of 1:47.6. In 1968, he was the U.S. Mens' Outdoor Track & Field 800 meter Champion with a time of 1:45.5, and participated on the U.S. Olympic team. Also in 1968 along with Roscoe Divine, Arne Kvalheim and Dave Wilborn he set the 4-mile relay world record with a time of 16:05.0. Bell was inducted into the State of Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 1982. In 1998 he was inducted into the University of Oregon Athletic Hall of Fame as an individual and once again in 2009 he was inducted into the University of Oregon Athletic Hall of Fame as a member of the championship 1965 track & field team.
