Murphy , H.D.
H.D. Murphy played runningback and defensive back for the University of Oregon (1962-63), and in 1964 he was drafted in the 19th round by the Dallas Cowboys. A career highlight for Murphy came when Oregon played Southern Methodist in the 1963 Sun Bowl without the services of injured All-American Mel Renfro. Murphy helped lead the Ducks to a 21 to 14 victory when he set up Oregons's first score after his 49-yard interception return. Murphy had another interception in the game and had 3 rushes for 49 yards. Murphy also played baseball for the University of Oregon, and batted .364 while earning All-Coast honors in 1964. In 1965, Murphy played minor professional football and was named first team All-Star halback for his play with the Philadelphia Bulldogs of the Continental Football League.
