Ramsay , Jack
Dr. Jack Ramsay was born February 21, 1925 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Early in his coaching career he coached high school and college basketball before becoming the head coach of the Portland Trailblazers in 1976. Ramsay led the Trailblazers to their first NBA title in 1977, and eventually led the team to nine NBA playoff appearances before he left Portland in 1986. When he retired from coaching he was the second winningest coach in NBA history. Throughout his NBA career he coached the Philadelphia 76ers, Buffalo Braves, Portland Trailblazers, and Indiana Pacers. As an NBA coach he won 864 games (.525%). In 1992, he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame and the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame as a coach.
