Nickleberry , Bill
Bill Nickleberry excelled at basketball and track at Portland's Jefferson High School. In 1965 he won the state 4A Boys Long Jump Championship with a leap of 22 ft. 10 1/4 inches, and in 1966 was selected as an All-American basketball player. During his basketball career from 1965 to 1966 he averaged an impressive 25.7 points per game. Before leaving Jefferson High School he set the then state record in the long jump at 24 ft. 1 1/2 inches. An all-around athlete at Jefferson, he also ran the 100-yard dash and a leg on the school's 440-yard relay. After high school he was a three-year letterman at Oregon State University where he played guard on the basketball team. Bill Nickleberry was inducted into the Portland Interscholastic League Hall of Fame in 2004.
