Knight , Phil
Best known as a co-founder of NIKE, Phil Knight was a standout athlete at Portland's Cleveland high school. While at Cleveland he participated in cross country, basketball and track. In 1955, he played on the Portland Interscholastic League championship basketball team, placed second in the league 880 yard run, and fourth in the state 880 yard run. After high school he attended the University of Oregon (1957, 1958,1959) where he was a middle distance runner with a career best mile time of 4:10 seconds. Knight is a member of the Cleveland high school Sports Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Portland Interscholastic League Hall of Fame in 2001.
